[EGLOMISE ETCHING]. [NELSON, Lord Horatio (1758-1805), subject]. Portrait of Lord Nelson in Gold Leaf, Reverse Etched on Glass. [Ca. 1800s]. Circular portrait of Nelson wearing his bicorne hat (thought to originate at the time of the Battle of Copenhagen), reverse etched in gold leaf on glass. Approximately 3 ¼” in diameter. In contemporary mahogany frame. Frame size approximately 7 ¼ x 7”. Some soiling visible on portrait, as well as tape residue, some tape repairs visible on verso of eglomise. Very good. A rare portrait in an unusual eglomise medium (eglomise is a process of reverse etching on glass). Not examined out of frame.
