Item Details
Description
This desk has seen its share of hard times, bearing the scars of active living & love. Signed R.T. Smith, Feb 14, 1890. No it wasn't built by a master carpenter, it was built by someone who worked with their hands, who put their heart into making a piece of furniture for someone special, given on Valentine's Day in 1890 most likely. Over time the locks have been replaced by a magnetic catch, the interior drawers use old screws for knobs, the surfaces bear the honest patina and wear of 130 plus years. The desk is two-part, it is marked along the rear skirt as shown, with the top setting over that held in place with wood screws. No its not perfect, but to whomever it was given it was. That's what primitive is all about, showing the honest scars of time while still providing a presence. The stories this old desk could tell. It measures 34" wide, 18" deep and 58" in height.
