Description
A rare Frank Vosmansky hand painted trivet for Abercrombie & Fitch, the tile likely made by Crest Studios in Vermont. During the Russian Revolution, a cavalry officer named Cyril Gorainoff with a talent to draw horses / wildlife fled to America. After meeting a Czechoslovakian technical ceramicist named Frank Vosmansky, they opened a small gift shop on Madison Avenue in New York City in the 1920's. Growing every successful with their business, in the 1930's Abercrombie and Fitch, a high end retailer entered into an exclusive contract with them to feature their sporting line of hand painted hunt scenes, dogs and birds. By the mid-1950's, the pair were commissioned to produce china for the White House, which in turn led to an explosion of interest by the wealthy to order their own custom china as well. This tile is hand painted by Frank Vosmansky and set in a chromed footed frame with felt backing, measuring 6.25" square.
