Attributed to Gertrude Abercrombie, German, American, 1909 to 1977, oil painting on masonite, Leaf with Caterpillar, 1970. Signed and dated lower right. Framed. Provenance: from the Private collection, Houston, Texas. Completed with an original letter, Johnson and Clark Interior Designers, dated September 14, 2006, and signed by Philip Clark, Firm Executive Director. Gertrude Abercrombie is known for Surreal imagery. The artist was an American painter based in Chicago. Called the queen of bohemian artists, Abercrombie was involved in the Chicago jazz scene and was friends with musicians such as Dizzy Gillespie, Charlie Parker, and Sarah Vaughan, whose music inspired her creative work. One of a kind artwork.
