A Satsuma Baluster Vase
Meiji era (1868-1912), late 19th/early 20th century
Decorated in enamels and gilt with two large elaborate panels enclosing outdoor scenes depicting an assembly of rakan (disciples of Buddha) dressed in their customary scholar's robes and with their respective attributes accompanied by karako (Chinese boys) separated by stalks of flowering dahlia and hollyhock; signed on the base in gilt Kozan. 18.2cm (7 1/8in) high.
