Presented here for your consideration is an antique Pima Butterfly design basket. Not only does this basket have a beautiful butterfly design but the weaving is just incredible! This lovely design is done in brown and tan, and a nice black rim finishes off this great piece.
The Pima (Akimel O'Odham), who reside in central and southern Arizona, produced magnificent baskets with meaningful designs and patterns. Their finely-coiled baskets are made of cattail or bear grass foundation and closely stitched with willow and devil's claw for designs. They are some of the most sought after of the Southwestern baskets by collectors. This basket would be the perfect addition to your collection, so go ahead and bid now!
MAKER: An unknown basket weaver.
APPROX AGE: Antique (meaning prior to 1930).
SIZE: This basket measures approximately 2 inches deep x 10 3/4 inches in diameter.
