Item Details
Description
Offered here for your consideration is a huge Hohokam shoulder pot. The Hohokam are the ancestors of many Sonoran Desert tribes and are well known for their intricate irrigation system, relatively large communities and material artifacts, including pottery. Here is a truly amazing pot, rare for its size and configuration as a shoulder pot. The white slip of the pot is covered in myriad whirling and geometric patterns over the entire exterior. The pot is simply fantastic. It would make a great addition to your collection or your museum or your home decor but put it away before the grandkids visit. Seriously, bid now!
*Note - no in-house shipping. Options include local pick up, specialty shipper or courier of your choice can pick up.
PROVENANCE:
Rust collection. The history of this collection comes from that of Dennis Sipe who owned the White Mountain Hereford Ranch near Springerville, AZ. After Mr. Sipe passed away, the Rust family acquired a large collection of prehistorics from the collection and this was one of the pots. It is unclear whether this pot was found on the ranch or traded for from another source. Included is a copy of a history of Sipe's ruin (believed to have been written by Mr. Hinckley in 1987) in which it is clearly stated that no burial sites were found or disturbed when excavations were done on the ranch.
MAKER: Unknown Hohokam potter.
APPROX AGE: Prehistoric.
SIZE: Measures approximately 18 inches across x 16 inches tall.
CONDITION: Restored with normal wear and minor imperfections expected. Please look closely at the pictures as they are an important part of our description and are hereby incorporated into the description, specifically with regards to condition.
HANDLING: There will be a $25 handling fee for taking this item to the specialty shipper of your choice within 50 miles of Casa Grande, Arizona. No handling fee for local pick up or courier of your choice.
SHIPPING: The actual cost of shipping will be between the buyer and specialty shipper or courier of your choice.
