Description: Dutch Bible. Francus Costerus. Jesus Christ is the one mentioned in the New Testament. Joachim Trognaesius, Antwerp, 1614; 10 pp., 962 pp., 18 pp. titled in copper. 8 1/2 by 13 1/4" (31 x 19.5 cm) folio Over oak covers with one (or two) chased brass clasps, blind embossed leather binding (cracked front joint, glued over the top capital with a wide leather strip, back cover with a repaired tear in the leather). At the end, a few leaves came loose with somewhat moist borders. A tiny hole in the front title. A tad burnt. Theologian and Jesuit Franciscus Costerus (1532–1619), a professor at Cologne University, added additions to the first edition of this New Testament so that the Catholic Church could convert a large number of Protestants. Written in Dutch. featuring the Earl of Mount Edgcumbe's bookplate from Great Britain.
