Stalzer was the son of a Viennese merchant and initially attended high school; He then received private art lessons. He then studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. His teachers were Eduard Peithner von Lichtenfels, Siegmund L'Allemand, Kasimir Pochwalski and August Eisenmenger. As a Rome Prize winner, he undertook study trips to Italy in 1899, 1905 and 1906. In February 1915, Hans Stalzer joined the Austro-Hungarian Army as a one-year volunteer. army. During the First World War he initially worked as a technical draftsman for the k.u.k. Fortress Construction Directorate active. In 1916 and 1917 he studied at officers' schools before joining the k.u.k. art group as a war painter. war press quarters. Stalzer gained particular importance as a portrait painter, as he portrayed a large number of important national and international personalities, statesmen, artists, representatives of the nobility, science and business. Parts of his oeuvre can be found in the Vienna Museum, the Albertina, the Military History Museum and in the art collection of the Society of Music Friends.
