Rolex Datejust Wristwatch Ref 16220,
Brand: Rolex
Period: 1980-1989
Date of Manufacture: 1987
Condition: Excellent See 'Item description'.
Our vintage Rolex Datejust reference 16220 features a classic combination of stainless steel 36mm case, with stainless steel engine turned bezel, stainless steel Jubilee bracelet and desirable white Roman Numeral service dial. Presented in outstanding condition, this Datejust shows only light signs of use from new and the bracelet is without notable stretch. This example comes with wallet, calendar and papers dated June 1989, and bears a R ***** serial, dating production to 1987. Very notably, this particular Datejust's punched papers show that it was retailed by Lugli & Zini in Mogadiscio (Mogadishu, Somalia), as above on 22nd June 1989 to a Mr John, with country code 672, the reference, serial and bracelet typed, along with dealer stamp and signature. The dealer was the period authorised retailer for Rolex and had been in Tripoli and Mogadishu, dating from Italian colonial times. Historically, this is likely to be one of the (if not the very) last Rolex sold prior to the civil war. In summary: a superb and usable 36mm Datejust, amongst the very best 1980s Rolex we have handled and with a very unusual provenance. As the original box is not present, a Rolex service pouch will be included.
