The Brass plate on this beautiful billiard table lists the company as Brunswick Bros Stephani & Hart Co with the date of 1875. John Brunswick and his brothers merged with a rival company, Julius Balke, in 1873, which places this table in the transition period and before the company merged with the Collender Co. in 1884, and became the Brunswick Balke-Callender Co. Like many of the early billiard tables of the time, this example with the craftsmanship and artistry of the walnut base, mixed woods marquetry and Empire styling, is a prime example of what laid the foundation for Brunswick's 170 years of worldwide success. CONDITION: 8' table showing an earlier restoration with distinctive inlay, original ivory markers, brass identification plate and replaced leather pockets. The table will require professional assembly upon delivery and the instillation of new felt which is common to the disassembly and assembly of these antique tables. This lot comes with 2 sets of clay billiard balls, triangles, brushes, spectator stools, and 14 framed black and white photos of pool halls and players in action.
