Description
A lacquer tea caddy ? (natsume), cylindrical of shape with a refined design showcasing a pine tree forest ?? (matsu) surrounding a bridge over a meandering river with lively waves, and in the distance a torii ?? (Shinto shrine archway). The lid’s top surface displays a prominent pine tree in front of a traditional Japanese house, bordered by a canted red negoro’nuri-style edge. The motif executed in golden hiramaki-e ??? (low-relief lacquer design) and takamaki-e ??? (high-relief lacquer design) over a glossy black lacquered ground, with the lid embellished by shiny blue mother-of-pearl ?? (raden). The interior and underside coated with glossy black lacquer as well.Including wooden tomobako ?? (storage box). Height: 7.cm. Diameter: 6.8 cm. The natsume is in a very good original condition.
