Description

A pair of William IV silver platters Edward, Edward junior, John & William Barnard, London 1837 Each of shaped-oval form, the moulded scroll border interspersed with leaves, the border engraved with an armorial and crest of a leopard passant proper (Harvey), reverse with engraved presentation inscription, length 49.5cm, weight 130oz. (2) Footnotes: Inscription reads 'PRESENTED TO ROBERT ELLISON HARVEY ESQRE BY THE REFORMERS OF LIVERPOOL assembled at a Public Meeting held on 13th January 1836. AS A TESTIMONIAL OG THEIR ESTEEM and as a token of their gratitude for his Patriotic and successful exertions IN PROMOTING Parliamentary and Municipal REFORM' The inscription and armorial are for Robert Ellison HARVEY (1789-1854) who was born at Woodchurch, Cheshire but was later of Walton Priory, Walton-on-the-Hill, were he is recorded in census records as a magistrate and landowner. He was the son of Thomas HARVEY by Anne ELLISON (1764-1852) the daughter of Robert ELLISON (1717-1798) gentleman of Woodchurch, Cheshire by Jane PEACOCK (1727-1793). In 1842, in Liverpool, he married Margaret ELLISON (born 1798) of Liverpool the daughter of Arthur ELLISON (1761-1845) a surgeon by Mary TURNER (born 1773). Although Mr HARVEY was never a parliamentary candidate he supported other candidates and local parties. His family were well known in Liverpool for their property and business ownership, which included a brewery.
