An 18th century Dutch silver tobacco box Maker's mark MC, probably for Matthijs Crayenschot, Amsterdam, 1776 Of circular form, the bellied sides with applied medallions of classical male masks issuing from garlands above, laurel banded spreading foot, the pull-off domed cover with laurel garlands above a flower head embellished guilloche band, surmounted by an urn finial, 14cm wide, 14cm deep, 18cm high (5 1/2in wide, 5 1.2in deep, 7in high), weight 20.6 troy oz, weight 640.1gms.
