Item Details
Description
An early 1960s Hopf Saturn 63 semi-hollow body electric guitar sunburst finish, owned and played by Randy Bachman, who has sold 40 million records worldwide as a member of The Guess Who, Bachman-Turner Overdrive, and as a solo artist.

Made by Hopf in West Germany and introduced in 1963, the Saturn 63 appears to have been one of the more successful models for the company, who primarily made archtops to that point. Features a flame maple body with a spruce top, a 22 fret 24.4” scale length maple neck with rosewood fingerboard, and two single coil pickups with controls for pickup selection, volume, and tone,

Like a cross between a Fender Jaguar and some of the more fast-looking guitars coming out of Germany at that time, the Saturn 63 stands out among its peers of the era, which is why Randy ended up with one in the first place. “When MTV came out, there’s no point in doing [videos]… you want eye candy. And then [viewers] assume you played it on the record, and you didn’t, but they all want to buy one.”

Includes hardshell case.
