Carmen.
ca. 1960.

"Bassman's vision carries the emotion of womanhood, rather than just the visual image of it." (Jules Wright, curator and founder of The Wapping Project).
Lillian Bassman's stunning photography work was featured in many mid-century fashion magazines. Beginning in the 1970s, Bassman ceased working solely in fashion photography, instead focusing on her own private projects. The transition prompted Bassman to discard countless negatives depicting some of her most notable fashion photographs. Luckily, their discovery in a trash bin in the 1990s led to a resurgence in her career whereupon she began to re-print and exhibit her works in New York and internationally.
