A Chinese Lacquered and Embellished Palace Screen
20th century, one side decorated with red lacquer ground embellished with hardstone of lush flowers with pairs of birds, the center larger center panel with red crest cranes gathered on a knobby pine tree, mountains in the distant, below each panel are hardstone carvings of archaic vessels and flowers, the border is inlaid mother of pearl and jewel colored pigments, reverse side is black lacquer ground painted with the four gracious gentlemen plants (orchid, bamboo, plum, and chysanthemum) together with inscriptions in gold, the larger center panel with a phoenix surrounded by large peony blossoms which together symbolize the empress, copper capped feet.

Overall very good estate condition; a few scattered minor scratches and losses to lacquer; a small area at bottom of middle screen black lacquer side with unknown clear substance.
