A Great War pair of medals for service in the Royal Marine Light Infantry, British War and Victory medals, “CH22465 PTE. J GRANT R.M.L.I.” Jamed Grant was born in Kingston on Thames, Surrey on 24th April 1897. He attested for the Army Service Corps in Taunton on 24th September 1915 and transferred to the Royal Marine Light Infantry on 5th February 1916. He continued serving in the Royal Marines until his discharge on 23rd September 1936, for the last 12 years of his service he was employed as a Cook. On the outbreak of the Second World War rejoined on 5th September 1939 and was released on 19th September 1945. James Grant died on 28th July 1962. He is clearly entitled to medals for the Second World War but did not qualify for his Long Service and Conduct medal.
