Description
A very scarce 4 gallon salt glaze crock dating to circa 1869-73. This piece originates from the Appleton Valley region of Wisconsin. It is not signed but matches the style of Leonard Roher who operated out of Menasha, WI starting in 1869 until the pottery burned down in 1873. Crock has self applied handles and wonderful floral design. It is free of any cracks or chips. Overall a wonderful piece of early Wisconsin stoneware. Pieces of this quality and origin usually come up for sale approximately once every 15 years. Measures 11" tall X 11" across.
