Description: Balance-form fountain pen, black lacquer ground decorated in hiramaki-e, raised takamaki-e, and togidashi maki-e by Rosui, depicting Mount Fuji on the cap and a seaside pavilion and boats on the barrel. Lever-filler. 135mm. 14K gold circle-vent Platinum nib, slight flex. Excellent condition, slightly rough texture to ornamentation at bottom of cap, perhaps as created by the artist.
Little is known about maki-e artist Rosui, except that he was a subcontractor of the Platinum Pen Co. starting in the 1930s. – Murakami, Tomihiro. Dunhill-Namiki and Lacquer Pens. Shibunkan Publications: 2000, p. 65.***********************
