Description
This rare coloured lithograph is from Paris Moderne, Grand Album. Repr?sentant les Vues et les Monuments les plus curieux de Paris et les Sites les plus remarquables des Environs. Published by Maison Martinet, Paris and printed by Godard, Paris 1855. This print was drawn and lithographed by Charles Rivi?re depicting Paris in the mid-nineteenth century, presented in the popular panoramic style of the day. This panoramic work contained a selection of twenty-four illustrated views of Paris, scarcely found in colour. This lushly illustrated work of coloured lithographs reflects many of the changes in Paris's landscape which came about as a result of Haussmann's great renovation of the city. 1855 marked the arrival of the Paris World's Fair. Napoleon III, the new Emperor, was eager to prove himself and built the Palais de l'Industrie in an attempt to better London's Crystal Palace, the centerpiece of the Great Exhibition in 1851. Size: 10.5in x 14.5in (27cm x 37cm)
