Description
Persia,Ca. 19th century
Of typical form, with boat shaped bowl and pointed handle, exquisitely decorated all over with floral devices and Arabic script. Spoons such as this example were typically made in the Persian town of Ababeh, which became famous for its wooden spoons and small boxes, usually made of pear wood and typically carved using a pen knife. This particular spoon appears to be of an early vintage, as later ones became increasingly large and flamboyant.
