Description
William and Mary style commode, likely 18thc or earlier, two short over three graduated long drawers, on bracket feet, approx 37.5"h, 38.5"w, 22.5"d
Condition
LOT – 3082- we believe this piece to atleast 18th century, and possibly earlier, based on construction and dovetails on drawers, see images
I note that the piece is structurally sound and the drawers operate correctly. The back is lacking two vertical boards, which are covered with a rigid fabric backing that is secured with staples. I do not know if the back has been replaced or if this is original to the piece. At the lower right side of the back, there is a split and small section of loss to the wood panel. There some typical finish loss and veneer lifting to the top, as well as small mars commensurate with age and use. The drawer that is second from the bottom has a small piece of later wood added to the interior baseboard to fill a larger split, roughly half an inch in width.
