Description
A Pair of Chimu Figural Posts Peru, c. 700-1100 AD These hardwood posts would have been attached by cross beams, then a platform of reeds would be attached to the frame to create a platform on which an infant would be secured. The pair of figures at the top are finely carved with red pigment rubbed into the recessed areas to bring out the details. Each is elaborately dressed in a tunic with blocks of stripes and dots at front and two marine birds on the back. They each wear a crescentic headdress and headband which is tied onto the back with tassels. Both in excellent condition. Note: The only known complete Chimu baby carrier is in the Linden-Museum, Stuttgart, Germany. Heights: 35 inches each HID03101062020 © 2024 Heritage Auctions | All Rights Reserved
