Description
A Tussian Plank Mask, ioniake Burkina Faso, c. early 20th century Wood with resin in an X across face and around eye holes with a few abrus seeds remaining. The brow and nose are carved in higher relief. Perforated above and below eyes, and all around the perimeter for attachment. Three holes on top for attachment of headdress. Remains of white pigment on facial plane, darker brown pyrography on the horns. In very good condition, appropriate for age, origin, and mediums; a loss and one inch long line of insect damage lower right. Remains of mud wasp nests and more resin on back.
