Boston - Hotel Vendome

Rare. The Boston Hotel Vendome was a luxury hotel that was located in the Back Bay neighborhood of Boston, Massachusetts. The hotel was built in 1871 and was considered one of the finest hotels in the city. It was designed in the French Second Empire style and featured elaborate architectural details such as mansard roofs and ornate dormers.During its operation, the Boston Hotel Vendome hosted many notable guests, including actors, musicians, politicians, and business leaders. The hotel was also the site of several historic events, including a fire in 1972 that claimed the lives of nine firefighters and caused extensive damage to the building.Stereoviews of the Boston Hotel Vendome were popular during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Stereoviews were created by taking two nearly identical photographs simultaneously from slightly different angles and mounting them side-by-side on a card. Notes & Literature: The Hotel Vendome fire in the United States was the worst firefighting tragedy in Boston history. Nine firefighters were killed during the final stages of extinguishing a fire on June 17, 1972. The Hotel Vendome was on the southwest corner of the intersection of Commonwealth Avenue and Dartmouth Street, in the Back Bay area of Boston.
