President James Madison's Message to Congress Regarding the End of the War of 1812 and Restoration of Peace
March 1, 1815-Dated War of 1812 Era, Newspaper titled, "Columbian Centinel" with a lengthy expression of thanks to General Andrew Jackson for his "New Orleans" Victory, Boston, Massachusetts, Very Fine.
A historic Newspaper issue with a front page Message to Congress from President James Madison regarding the end of the War of 1812 and the restoration of Peace with Britain, in which he justifies the necessity of the War, honors the soldiers, and much more. This reaport takes up half of the last column and is continue on the first column on page 2, and is signed in type by President Madison. This historic Newspaper measures about 14.5" x 19.75", 4 pages, complete, is clean and well printed. Standard horizontal centerfold, some irregular outer margin selvage paper loss at the mid-right edge, not affecting any text, minor humidity tone at bottom right, the 2 sheets are separated at the spine. Also, located on the front page, is a large political Ticket/Ballot for Caleb Strong running for Governor, pointing out that Strong was always an "Opponent of the War", unlike President Madison. It reads, in part:
"no curses are uttered for having filled the land with Widows and with Orphans!" And asks: "Why do you rejoice at the return of Peace? It is because it restores you to that state from which MADISON and his coadjutors drove you... If 'Blessed are the Peace Makers', cursed must be the 'War Makers'..."
Page 2 has a lengthy "expression of thanks" from the Massachusetts Legislature to General Andrew Jackson for his New Orleans victory. The back page has a "Song of Praise to God for Peace. Overall, it contains significant important contemporary War of 1812 historic news reporting.
