The clock having a gilt bronze circular dial with crown and crest to center and shaped inset enamel Roman numerals, gilt bronze surround of putti suspended in clouds and holding floral garlands, atop a waisted base with parquetry inset panels framed in gilt bronze and a cuff of acanthus leaves, further set on a tapering case having green tint inset panel with female mask set on a sunburst above a laurel branch, further having a green tint panel to center mounted with gilt bronze decoration of ribbon-tied foliate, an urn issuing flowers and floral garland within an egg and dart frame, with parquetry inset panels to either side, raised on paw feet and the whole further set atop a shaped quadripartite base with wreath and swag to center, gilt medallion mounts to corners and on inverted toupie feet with stylized acanthus leaf decoration.
The design of the present pedestal clock is based on a model originally executed by Jean-Henri Riesener (maître 1768), in 1785, now in the collection of the Louvre.
