Richard Stedman Estate Services LLC proudly presents their inaugural Las Vegas office auction Saturday, March 1st at 9am Pacific Time featuring works on paper, fine prints and editions from six artist's estates, the liquidated storage inventories of three former galleries and works from estates and private collections including Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Massachusetts, Nevada and New York including Las Vegas, Manhattan and Palm Beach. This will be an online-only event conducted live from Clark County, Nevada.

This is one of 25 original Irving G. Lehman works on paper that came from the artist's family in the late 20th century being offered individually in today's sale.

LEHMAN, Irving George (American, 1900-1983), Standing Figures, w/c en grisaille (painting in shades of black, white and gray) on heavy paper, 28" high x 14.5" wide, unsigned, Estate stamp on reverse. Unmatted and unframed.

This dates from 1939 to the 3rd quarter of the 20th century MCM Mid-Century Modern Era centered around Lehman's highly desirable 1940s period when he left his apartment over the jazz club in Greenwich Village and moved to Brooklyn to work at the Brooklyn Navy Yard during the War Effort,.foreshadowing his Post-War mid 1950s through mid 1960s New York School AbEx Abstract Expressionist period.

Condition: In as discovered unretouched estate folio condition, not conserved, not laid down, no mounting hinge residue, requiring attention:
Multiple corner creases with tearing upper left, corner loss lower right, narrower corner crease upper left, tears into image lower right and right top edge, somewhat dusty. This could be stabilized with backing tape and mounting tape and enjoyed in its present state by Mid Century Modern collectors however the condition sensitive collector, gallery or institution will need to submit the work for works on paper conservation prior to exhibition.

About the Artist:

LEHMAN, Irving George (Russian / American 1900-1983)

Painter, sculptor, printmaker and mixed media artist. Came to New York from Russia as a young man and had studios in lower Manhattan and Brooklyn. Studied at Cooper Union and National Academy of Design. One-man shows of both painting and sculpture at ACA Galleries in early 1930’s. Worked as a WPA (Works Progress Administration) artist during the Depression. Member of American Art Congress, worked near Woodstock and in Columbia County, NY and visited Rockport, MA & Mexico. Subjects include Brooklyn Navy Yard, Coney Island, Central Park, Greenwich Village, Camp Lexington in the Catskills and Jewish themes, as well as both Social Realist and Constructivist influenced figures. Lehman exhibited at the Art Institute of Chicago ( AIC ), Brooklyn Museum, National Academy of Design ( NAD ), Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts ( PAFA ) Museum of Fine Arts, Bezalel, Israel as well as in Paris, France, Japan and elsewhere. His oeuvre includes periods of considerable Constructivist, Ecole de Paris, Social Realist, Modernist, Abstract Expressionist, Regionalist, Judaic and Russian interest.

Lehman signed in both cursive and printed letters throughout his career. The artist’s date of death is variously recorded as 1981, 1982 & 1983 (the correct date is ‘83). There are several recognized Lehman estate stamps including “Red Rock Studio,” a signature stamp and “Estate of” (as 1900-1982 as well as 1900-1983) as after the death of his wife (artist Martha Lehman) his art was dispersed to 11 heirs through numerous exhibitions and auctions in Manhattan, upstate N.Y., New England, Florida and Canada during the 1990’s.

He is listed in the major auction databases, Davenport’s, Mallett’s, Who Was Who in American Art and numerous other publications.

Typical in-house turnaround time to ship date once an item and shipping fee(s) are paid is 4 to 9 business days for flat art and 6 to 9 business days for boxed items.

While we do not offer in-house shipping for items on buyer's shipping accounts or for items purchased outside of the Continental U.S., depending on where the item is housed we can often refer a local packing and shipping company and additionally often can offer packing services of $ 10.00 per first flat item plus $ 2.00 per each additional flat item including dropping the packed item to the referred shipper at which point the buyer would make all corporate and/or outside of Continental U.S. shipping and customs arrangements and payments thereof with the outside firm at the buyer's expense.

All items paid for with PayPal must be shipped to the listed account address whether shipped in-house or by an outside firm without exception.
