STOCKTON CALIFORNIA STUDIO. CDV by Spooner & Brownell. A man with a light hat stands holding a stick at the right. A seated younger man with a tall hat, dark clothes, holds a paper with his feet up on an overturned high chair. There's a mat or frame at the side. Spooner is well known as a Stockton photographer, but Brownell is only listed (in Mautz's "Biographies of Western Photographers") in partnership with Tuttle in Eureka, 1869. I think this is Spooner and Brownell, perhaps celebrating their partnership.
