Description
a highly detailed and finely crafted diminutive model of 19th century refrigerator, made of various woods, exterior has painted faux birds eye maple finish with pin stripe decorated sides, vault style door back and top lid surfaces are grain painted; boldly lettered in black on opening lid frame 'Seltzer & Fink's Patent, Jan. 14 1873.'; Offered as 'Reliable Refrigerator' in the 1873 Reading Eagle - these early ice boxes were manufactured by the firm of Eisenhower & Fink in Reading, Pa. An obvious innovation can be seen in the zinc lined ice compartment with ice melt catchment and draining system.
