Description
Herbert Davidson (American, Illinois, Wisconsin 1930 - ) oil on canvas entitled “Pink Parasol,” a haunting image of a demur Japanese woman in traditional geisha attire walking in front of a billboard on which an oversized reproduction of an Utamaro print is visible. Davidson has gone to the trouble of painting in creases and tears in the faded billboard a conceit he uses occasionally in his work. Hardly faded, the young woman is resplendent in her kimono and parasol, beautifully detailed by the artist. Davidson is well known for his portraits of entertainers but it is his candid work with children and subjects such as this for which he garners much respect. Signed lower right. Sight size is 21 1/4 by 29 1/2 inches and with new frame and tasty linen liner the total size is 31 by 39 inches. Excellent condition
