This pair of mixed media works by contemporary artist Matthew Weinstein each combine symbols, text and color to create a visually intriguing dialogue. By using vellum as the ground, Weinstein is able to overlay images to create multilayered depth and provide new pathways of aesthetic commentary.
Executed in 1992 and 1994, the mixed media on vellum works are each framed. “Apples” is signed, titled and dated and measures 18 x 15 inches. “Untitled” measures 17 x 14 inches. Each in overall good condition.
Matthew Weinstein (American, b. 1964)
A versatile contemporary artist, Matthew Weinstein studied at Columbia Universisty, New York. Best known for his 3D animation works, Weinstein also creates digitized drawings and videos that explore the line between reality and unreality. Weinstein was the first American artist to have a major exhibition at the new Pinakothek der Moderne in Berlin, Germany. His work has also been included in group exhibitions at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, NY; the Lisbon Biennale; and Kunsthalle Wien, Vienna, Austria. Weinstein’s works can be found in numerous collections, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Denver Art Museum, the Sammlung Goetz Collection, and the Elton John Collection.
