Mr. Julio Sanchez's many accomplishments including being a founding member of the Miami Beach Rod and Reel Club in 1930. One of the pioneers of introducing big-game fishing in the Bahamas that included Ernest Hemingway. Winner of the first Cat Cay Tuna Tournament in 1939 with a total bluefish catch of 4,177 pounds. Participated in six International Tuna Club Matches and captained his team to two victories, one in 1939 and later in 1947. Some of his contributions as an innovator in the sport included designing the first footrest for the fighting chair, created a fishing harness that was a precursor to the bucket seat, and devised a fishing technique for landing bluefin tuna unscathed by sharks, which is still practiced to this day. This rod was custom made by Tycoon Tackle for him. He was also influential in having the company add ball bearing roller guides to their Bimini King rods. The rod measures 82 1/2" and is regulation length made with 4 roller guides instead of the standard 5 guides. The butt section was also changed for his specifications and made longer than the standard Tycoon rod. Marked "The HRH", "Julio Sanchez" and "Tycoon Tackle" decal with leaping marlin. The tip section is friction forced to the butt section thus basically making it a one piece rod. All original with a slotted butt cap and felt fore-grip handle. An original signed letter by Dan Kleiser, who owned the rod and was displayed in his father's tackle shop for many years. Also, two press release photographs with captions on the back portraying Mr. Sanchez with a trophy cup in one and a record bluefin tuna of 610 pounds in the other.
