Description
Robert Wesley Amick (American, 1879 - 1969), "The Parting Shot," oil on canvas painting depicting 3 cowboys and a young woman fleeing on horseback across a body of water, with one turning back to fire a shot at three Native American figures in the background. Signed lower left and titled on nameplate. Hardwood frame with Chevron inlaid edges and beige linen mat. 24" x 36" canvas, 29" x 41 1/2" framed. Biography (Courtesy of AskArt: The Artists' Bluebook): Robert Wesley Amick was born in Canon City, Colorado amidst cowboys, prospectors and Indians. He studied law at Yale and practiced law for two years before deciding to study art privately and at the Art Students League in New York. His paintings of landscapes, horses and western life were drawn mainly from his childhood; he also illustrated for Harper's, Scribner's, and The American.
