Description
A New England Glass fixed globe lantern with the standard dagger top and a bail under the top plate. The base has an unusual semi-cup that is removable. The base has the standard earlier NEG Co patent of 1854. Some later models have the later 1868 patent marking. The 1868 model has the fount collar that this lantern comes with. It could have been replaced long ago. No recent repairs show at all. The tin is pitted and it was "clear koted" before being really cleaned to the bare metal. The base has the standard 5 point rounded star intake holes.
The globe is free blown and it has applied rings to the top and bottom. These were done to give the plaster something to hang onto. There is a B&A with no RR cutting across the center. I bought this lantern from Tom Walsh in the 1980s. He bought it from Charlie Coulomb. It's nice to know where some of this stuff comes from.
