Description
The Brigade was founded in autumn 1944 and was the largest Jewish unit of the British army. The brigade, which had a badge and a Jewish-national flag of its own, fought the Nazis in Italy commanded by Brigadier Levi (Ernest Frank) Benjamin and commanders form the Land of Israel.
C. Military-khaki cloth tag on which it is embroidered in white thread, in Hebrew: "Chil" (Chativa Yehudit Lochemet - Jewish Fighting Brigade) and under it "Jewish Brigade Group". 11X2.5 cm.
D. Metal badge of a military rabbi. At its center, a Star-of-David with the British Crown of King George above it.
The military rabbis had a special role among the Jewish volunteers from the Land of Israel. Their responsibility was rabbinical-religious; yet they also took care of cultural, national and social matters. There were 21 rabbis in the Jewish Brigade.
