Description
Japanese Moriage Cloisonne Vase, late Meiji period (1868-1912)/Taisho period (1912-1926), attributed to Gonda Hirosuke (1865-1937), the vase decorated with two carp, one pink and one blue-gray, swimming up to a rippling current, on a celadon-colored ground, with a taupe underside and interior, and displayed on a reticulated wooden stand, vase, h. 6-1/4", dia. 3". A vessel with similar attributes sold at Bonhams, London on November 5, 2009, lot 225. Another case with this decoration can be found in the Khalili Collection of Japanese Art, London, United Kingdom and is published in Fredric T. Schneider's The Art of Japanese Cloisonne Enamels, London, 2010, fig. 61.
Condition
In overall excellent condition. Very, very few scattered pinprick-sized production-related surface anomalies. Very even and consistent throughout. Some patination and slight rubbing to the underside consistent and based on the object's age and material.
