Max Bill (1908-1994)
Born in Winterthur in 1909, Max Bill studied at the Bauhaus School in Dessau under the guidance of many teachers, including Wassily Kandinsky, Paul Klee and Oskar Schlemmer from 1927 to 1929. After working on graphic designs for a number of modern buildings, he built his first house and studio in Zurich-Höngg. In the 1950s, he was engaged in theoretical writings and progressive graphic works, which made him the most influential graphic artist of Switzerland His architectural designs include that of the Bauhaus Archive in Berlin.
