Description
China, Ming Dynasty, 16th Century A dark patina bronze cast with traces of pre-existing gilding. The crowned Bodhisattva Guanyin is represented in padmasana, wearing rich robes and is shown holding a ruyi sceptre. This interesting representation, characterised by strong disproportion of the head to the body, is attributable to the characteristic Ming dynasty production that flourished at the turn of the fifteenth century and ended with the decline of the dynasty.Provenance: recorded prior to 1930 in the family home in London, passed by inheritance to the present owner. h 23 cm
