Item Details
Description
Nineteenth-century trio of encased photographs. One is of a couple (whose individual photographs are featured in a previous lot) and their little boy Kirk peeking over their shoulders; another features the boy, Kirk (according to the label pinned inside the frame case) posing by himself, and the third is of two unnamed children. The frame boxes, called union cases in their day, are made of lightweight wood covered in a thin layer of embossed leather, and their exterior conditions are in good antique shape, with hinges intact. Little Kirk's smaller union case has some slight tearing to the hinge, as well as some tearing in the red fabric inner lining. The larger photographs, made in the sixth plate size also common in that era, are under glass and beautifully framed in ornate brass. In the larger photos the brass frames and velvet case linings have held up well, and the tiny hook-clasps work perfectly. Those cases measure about 3.5 by 3 inches, while the smaller one is about 2.5 by 3 inches.
