Photograph of a reclining Italian boy, dressed in skins and holding an ancient Roman vase by Baron Wilhelm Von Gloeden (1856-1931). Salt print on drawing paper. Not mounted or framed. Signed and dated in ink, by the photographer, lower left “Von Gloeden ’08”. Photographer’s blind stamp on reverse, in purple ink. A rare horizontal composition by this well-known artist. Unknown or unique image.

NOTES: Baron Wilhelm von Gloeden (September 16, 1856 – February 16, 1931) was a German photographer who worked mainly in Italy. He is mostly known for his pastoral nude studies of Sicilian boys, which usually featured props such as wreaths or amphoras suggesting a setting in the Greece or Italy of antiquity. His works are held in many museums and important private collections.
