A beautiful thega, dating: 19th Century, provenance: India, dating: 19th Century, provenance: India, Very wide, single-and false-edged blade, back with grooves, richly chiselled, in the first part with tigers, Indian and European figures, elephants and yalis, framed with floral and geometrical motifs; central part with five grooves divided by triple lines, an elephant with different trunks (Airavata, associated with Indra) and European jester towards the foible, all partially gilded; important, iron hilt richly engraved and gilded, quillon with Arabic inscriptions on one side and Devanagari on the other; pommel with five domes (reflecting the Indian construction drawing), a deity under the pavilion and between floral motifs at the center, guard decorated with gold koftgari. Rectangular, rose wooden grip with floral motifs bone inlays (small parts missing)., length 105.5 cm.
