Description
An Egyptian wooden coffin fragment with colorful painted gesso, 3rd Intermediate Period, c. 1075 – 664 BC, with the top of two vertical columns of hieroglyphic text visible and part of another, the row of stars along the top is particularly pleasing. L: 4 1/3 in (11.1cm), W: 1 7/8 in (4.9cm). Old collection note on back stating it was from the coffin of a scribe named Aqaa. Ex estate of Seward Kennedy, New York. Mr. Kennedy worked for decades as a lawyer for the Mobil Corporation, and acquired his collection throughout decades of travel beginning in the 1950's.
