He once stated, “I paint representational pictures of emotional situations.” Hodgkin’s process involved painting on wood in an extremely slow manner involving repainting. In “Abstract and Model”, there is a figure silhouette centered and surrounded by hatched lines in several directions. The background is green with maroon lines painted over. There is a rectangle in the center that retains the composition yet changes the colors to yellow beneath orange, save for the figure, to create much visual interest.
