DESCRIPTION: After Jean Duplessi-Bertaux (French, 1747-1818). Handcolored engraving on wove paper. Portrait of Napoleon above a scene of the Battle of Austerlitz with crest. Composed, drawn and engraved by Duplessi-Bertaux and completed by Edme Bolivet. Published by Thierry, Paris, France. Stamped lower right "Bernard Franck Collection". In gilded and gessoed frame. PROVENANCE: Bernard Franck was born in Paris in 1848. He was a veteran of the 1870 Franco-Prussian War and was awarded the Medaille Militaire. He was a successful industrialist, specializing in the manufacturing of military equipment. He was also a collector, known for his collections of miniatures and Carnets de Bal (dance cards). He sold his collection of dance cards to J.P. Morgan around 1910. MEASUREMENTS: 22-3/8" x 14-3/8". Overall with frame 26-5/8" x 18-1/2". CONDITION: Light handling marks and central crease. Uniform toning. Five small holes/tears to top margin edge most obscured by frame. Wear and losses to frame.
