Description
Southeast Asia, Philippines, Ifugao, ca. 19th century CE. A hand-carved, incised, and painted wooden shield with substantive woven rattan bands bordering the mid-section - this central panel skillfully carved with an attractive symmetrical composition of attractive geometric designs - and carved termini - perhaps to resemble abstract limbs and a head. Carved handle on the verso and perforation to center of three handles at one end for suspension. Size: 10.25" W x 33.25" H (26 cm x 84.5 cm)
