carved wooden mask from the Kore society of the Bamana peoples, Mali, West Africa. The mask was carved from a hard dense wood in the image of a Antelope, with tall horns and ears alert and tall. The mask has wear and handling consistent with age and possible field use. The mask is shown on a display stand for image purposes, however no stand was included with this lot. A durable metal display stand can be included for $30.00. The mask measures The mask was previously in a Museum collection ( Full provenance upon request) Also Previously in the collection of Prof. Charles Bordogna, past curator of the SMA fathers museum of African Art, and author of several publications on African Art. The mask measures 29 inches tall.
