Possibly French. Having a pierced cutout convex axe head with pierced cutout rear spike with initials, M.H.I. All surmounted by a beveled two sided pear point, mounted to the haft with four straps. The haft ends with an additional spike . Blade and strap length of 35 1/2 inches. Overall length is 92 1/2 inches.
