Description
Chinese Export, late 18th century. A sixty-five piece partial porcelain service comprised of one lidded tureen, one smaller covered dish, eleven graduated platters, twenty-six lunch plates, seven soups, eight dessert plates, one tray, two bowls, two gravy boats, one sauce pitcher, two salts, one teapot, and two lidded jars, all decorated with a cobalt blue and gilt pattern and monogrammed B, all unmarked; tureen lg. 14.5, soups dia. 10, lunch plates dia. 9.75, jars ht. 12, larger bowl dia. 8.75 in.
Made for General Samuel Blackburn (1759-1835), by tradition, as a wedding gift from the Marquis de Lafayette (1757-1834).
